Frequently Asked Questions

Here's what we usually get asked

What is an Exercise Physiologist?

EPs (exercise physiologists) are university qualified allied health professionals equipped with the knowledge, skills and competencies to design, deliver and evaluate safe and effective exercise interventions for people with acute, sub-acute or chronic medical conditions, injuries or disabilities.

How are they different to a Physio?

Physiotherapists are often used in the more acute stages of injury, for purposes of diagnoses and where any hands on treatment that may be required (taping. Massage, ultrasound etc). Physio’s may also include exercise in their treatment; however, Exercise Physiologists specialise in individualization, modification & progression of exercise given a particular disease or disability and in the sub-acute and advanced stages of an injury. EP’s treatment purely consists of the use of exercise, lifestyle change, and self-management techniques in managing injury, disease, disability or a combination of these.

What types of clientele do you see?

Exercise Physiologists assist in individualizing exercise for anyone & everyone! This includes those with acute or chronic injury, neurological conditions, cardiovascular and respiratory issues, mental health conditions, disabilities, and even athletes for sports-specific training and injury prevention.

What can I expect from an initial consult with an Exercise Physiologist?

Your Exercise Physiologist will gather your medical and injury history, discuss exercise experience and goals, conduct fitness assessments, and provide home exercise prescriptions and lifestyle advice tailored to your needs.

Do I require a referral to see an Exercise Physiologist?

No, a referral is not required to see an Exercise Physiologist; however, your GP or Allied Health Professional may refer you.

Can I claim Exercise Physiology on TAC?
